In 2018-2019, Dr. Morton partnered with Arlington County’s Mobility Lab to examine the possible impacts of autonomous vehicles on Arlington. During the studio, Virginia Tech welcomed a number of transportation and planning experts to give presentations to the students about what AVs mean for the future.
Teams of students reviewed the relevant existing literature on AVs and produced several products: a report summarizing interviews with over a dozen developers in the DC area, examining how they are preparing for AVs; a study of public attitudes about AVs based on a survey of over 200 people who live or work in Arlington; and an interactive presentation on what parking could look like in a future with heavy AV use.
